By late 1983, Rick Hendrick had begun putting plans together to go racing in the 1984 NASCAR Cup Series® season. Prior to launching that inaugural season, a white No. 5 City Chevrolet test car was shaken down at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the fall of 1983. Following that initial shakedown, Geoff Bodine would go on to earn three wins during Hendrick Motorsports’ first season competing in the NASCAR Cup Series®. Now Lionel Racing is excited to present the die-cast of the Hendrick Motorsports 1983 City Chevrolet Monte Carlo Test Car as the next offering in its NASCAR® Classics line. Using reference photos from Hendrick Motorsports’ archives, Lionel Racing artists have re-created the team’s first test from more than 40 years ago – from the metallic No. 5 door number to the silver and blue City Chevrolet logo.
